What a privilege it is to travel. I don’t take any of it for granted and visiting Ponte Vecchio in Florence was one of those moments where I found myself thinking, wow, we are actually here. You see this bridge in photographs so often, but walking across it is something else entirely. It’s busy, a little chaotic, full of tiny jewellery shops and people stopping everywhere for photos, but somehow that’s all part of it. The history is incredible too. Ponte Vecchio has been standing here since the 1300s, crossing the Arno through centuries of Florence’s history. Once filled with butchers and merchants, today it’s lined with goldsmiths and jewellers, and above it runs the Vasari Corridor that the Medici used to move privately across the city. My favourite part, though, wasn’t actually standing on the bridge. It was walking a little further along the Arno, turning around and seeing Ponte Vecchio properly from the river. That’s when you really appreciate just how beautiful and unusual it is. Florence has a way of making history feel very present. You’re not looking at something behind glass. You’re walking across it, surrounded by everyday life, just as people have done for hundreds of years. Definitely one of those places I’ll remember. And another reminder of just how lucky we are to be able to see the world. ❤️

The Ponte Vecchio is one of Florence’s most iconic landmarks and an absolute must-see. Despite being very popular, it never felt overwhelmingly crowded, making it easy to enjoy the experience. The bridge itself is beautiful, with its historic charm and unique shops, and the views over the Arno River are stunning. Even if you don’t plan to browse the shops, it’s well worth crossing just to admire the architecture and take in the atmosphere. A visit to Florence simply isn’t complete without seeing the Ponte Vecchio.
